Rudding Park Private Chapel
Rudding Park, Private Chapel
Rudding Park Hotel, Follifoot, Harrogate, North Yorkshire, HG3 1JH
A magnificent private chapel in the grounds of Rudding Hall.
This private chapel is listed by Nikolaus Pevsner in his book, Buildings of England, Yorkshire, The West Riding and was built in 1874, 50 years after Rudding House itself was completed. Although described as a Chapel, it is the size of many a parish church. Designed by A E Purdie it has spectacular masonry including polished Aberdeen granite columns. Also a mortuary chapel with a pentagonal roof. Groups of angels with musical instruments support the chancel arch. There is also an elaborate reredos.
